Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

Yes there is! A Registered Dietitian (also known as Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or RDN) is accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. We complete a Bachelor of Science undergraduate program in nutrition, a one year clinical internship program and pass a national exam administered by the Dietetic Association. We must also maintain our registered status through continuing education and advanced degrees/certifications.

What can I expect on my first visit?

Your first visit will be an assessment where we listen carefully to your current needs and help you set realistic goals. Your height, weight and waist circumference are measured and recorded. The length of a first visit usually runs about 1 hour.

How often do I need to come?

All of our patients are different! The frequency of visits will be decided between you and your dietitian based on your needs and goals.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Yes we do. We make every effort to remind our patients about their appointments. However, if you need to cancel or reschedule your appoint we require 24 hours notice so we have time to schedule someone else in your time slot. Our late cancellation/no show fee is $50.
As a reminder, by scheduling an appointment you are not only making a commitment to your health, but to the staff at Back To Basics Nutrition Counseling who are here to guide you through your journey .

Will my health insurance pay for nutrition visits?

Unfortunately there is no clear cut answer. Most health insurances cover nutrition counseling visits. We encourage you to call you insurance plan so you know your benefits. We will also call your insurance to verify benefits. If you have more than one health insurance plan please be sure to have your coordination of benefits in order prior to your visit.

Please note insurance companies disclaimer: verification of benefits is not a guarantee of payment. You will be responsible for any out of pocket expenses your insurance does not cover

Will you be in contact with my other healthcare providers?

Our office will reach out to your other healthcare provider as needed to ensure you get the best quality of care.
For those seeking weight loss surgery, we work closely with your bariatric surgeons office to ensure all proper documentation is received for insurance submission.
