Marisol Vazquez, RDN

Marisol Vazquez is a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist and owner of Back To Basics Nutrition Counseling. She earned her bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition with a minor in business management and completed her dietetic internship through the College of Saint Elizabeth. Prior to becoming a private nutritionist in Caldwell, her dietetic career began in the regulatory department for both Kraft Foods and Unilever. Marisol began following her passion  doing nutrition counseling and opened her private practice as a Caldwell nutritionist in June of 2010. In November of that same year Marisol completed the certificate of training in adult weight management through the commission on dietetic registration.

“I believe food should be about quality NOT quantity. Eating well and leading a healthy lifestyle can prevent many medical conditions.”

The field of dietetics is a second career for Marisol. Prior to receiving her degree in Food and Nutrition, she worked for 12 years in finance as an administrative assistant. This role helped develop her strong listening skills and focus to detail.  These abilities are just part of what makes her such a special Caldwell NJ nutritionist. In her spare time, Marisol enjoys running, cooking and spending quality time with her family and friends. Marisol speaks both English and Spanish.

Marisol's scope of practice includes:
Bariatric nutrition counseling
• Weight management
• Pre/Type 2/Gestational Diabetes
Medical nutrition therapy
Body composition analysis

"Marisol’s care to my questions, concerns, and cultural food background about nutrition supported my goal to reach an ideal balance of eating healthy. Now, thinking about what to eat next is not a stress, but it’s become part of my lifestyle. I recommend Marisol wholeheartedly!" ~ A. Castillo

"It was Thanksgiving 2012, my weight and overall health were both going in the wrong direction. Even though I had been friends with Marisol for years, I had never approached her concerning my weight despite the fact that I had always wanted to. Lucky for me, we not only sat together at Thanksgiving but when I started the food conversation, Marisol finished the conversation for me. At first I only wanted to do food charts to help me get back on the right track again. She followed up with me in January, to meet her at Garden State Bariatrics and Wellness Center for a seminar on weight loss surgery. I had never considered surgery but gradually came to realize Marisol might be right. We began weekly food charts and worked on eating post-surgery, so I would be ready for my new eating style from day one. When we started working together I weighed 360 pounds and 6 months later was down almost 50 pounds before the surgery. Marisol’s support did not stop with just food, she convinced me to take care of my sleep apnea, cut the cigar smoking and provided support post gastric bypass. We still see each other on a regular basis but what is most valuable to me is the fact that when I reach my goal weight, Marisol will be in my corner helping me maintain it. Thank you Marisol for being my friend, my nutritionist and my mentor." ~ J. Glenn
